Its been a busy couple of weeks for celebrity separations with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announcing they are to divorce after 10 years of marriage and 3 children. This was followed by the separation of Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick who also have three young children.
Closer to home it is being reported that Kerry Katona has kicked her third husband George Kay out of the family home that they share with their daughter and Kerry’s four children from previous relationships.
The next step for all of these couples is to work out how to deal with the practicalities of their separations whilst minimising distress for both themselves and their children. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have been on holiday to the Bahamas with their children reportedly to try to work out some of the details. It appears that they may be taking a tip from fellow A-listers Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin who also took a “divorce retreat” to the Bahamas after going public with their intentions to “consciously uncouple” last year. It appears to have been a successful strategy for them as they have continued to holiday and spend time together as a family with their two children.
Whilst a trip to the Bahamas may not be an option for most of us there are still ways to manage divorce or separation which minimise conflict, particularly important when children are involved. At Higgins Miller we will help you to consider all of your options including mediation and collaborative law. For more information please contact us.
