Changes to Legal Aid

The government has published a consultation about changes to legal aid. The changes that are suggested would mean that some areas of advice such as children disputes, divorce and financial disputes which are currently covered by legal aid would no longer have funding available except in much more limited circumstances. This would result in our clients either having to pay us privately for such advice or to represent themselves.

We are very concerned about the impact of this on our clients and we are currently putting together our response to the consultation paper. We have also met with a local MP John Leech (Manchester Withington) to discuss the situation and raise our concerns.
