Domestic violence victims unable to access legal aid

A survey carried out by Women’s Aid, Welsh Women’s Aid and Right of Women has found that six out of ten victims of domestic violence are unable to access legal aid to protect themselves.

At Higgins Miller we have found that although we have many enquiries for those who have suffered domestic violence a large proportion of those people cannot produce the documentary evidence needed for us to be able to grant them legal aid.

This does not fit with the Government’s stated commitment to continuing to provide legal aid to domestic violence victims.

If you are a victim of domestic violence and would like some advice as to how to protect yourself then please contact us for an initial chat with one of our solicitors.
