Solicitors Fees

The facts about solicitors fees

There is a great deal of confusion regarding solicitor fees.  Many people believe that they are simply unaffordable. Others are of the opinion that they will be able to access Legal Aid and so solicitor fees are not a problem they need to consider. Neither of these beliefs is correct.

Let’s begin with solicitor fees.  Well yes, some solicitor fees can be expensive. It depends on the solicitor, their location and the profile of their clients. At Higgins Miller, however, we think you’ll find our fees are extremely competitive and we will always work with you and advise you on the best and most economic way to fund you own particular case.

As regards Legal Aid, we have to say that over recent years it has become increasingly more difficult to qualify for, but Higgins Miller holds a contract with the Legal Aid Agency.  So for clients who are eligible we are one of the few firms who can still undertake family law cases funded by Legal Aid.

The other valuable service we provide is our one hour fixed fee first appointment where for just £120 + vat @ 20% we will meet you to discuss your case for and we will advise you on the most appropriate action you should take, either by yourself or through a solicitor.

We will also advise you on the most likely timescale and costs. After the meeting we will provide you with a written report to confirm our advice and where possible we will offer fixed fees so that you know exactly what your solicitor costs will be for the work we do.

If your case is not suitable for a fixed fee arrangement we will provide our best estimate of likely costs and we can discuss arrangements for monthly bills or payment by instalments.

Depending on circumstances Legal Aid is still available for cases involving children where Social Services are involved. This applies for any parent or person with parental responsibility regardless of their financial status. In other cases involving Social Services Legal Aid may be available depending on financial circumstances.

Likewise, victims of domestic abuse may be awarded Legal Aid subject to their financial position.

Our advice is to speak to us, take advantage of our fixed fee first appointment and let us discuss your own situation together with all the alternatives.
