A Merry Christmas from Higgins Miller

Ask many people what Christmas is all about, and the answer you’ll get will be ‘family’. As one of the leading family solicitor practices that Manchester has to offer, we’re aware of the fact that the pressures of this special time of the year can sometimes lead to stress, tension and conflict, and that’s why we’re delighted to be able to say that members of our expert team are still on hand to deal with emergencies over the holiday period.

As family solicitors Manchester we’re experienced at dealing with the emotional as well as the practical fall out of legal issues. We understand that, for most ordinary people, having to deal with solicitors, disputes and the possibility of appearing in front of a court can be extremely daunting, and we go out of our way to offer empathetic and sensitive support. At the same time as this, we always make every effort to find the swiftest route to a resolution, to make sure our clients are aware of their rights and responsibilities, and to handle all aspects of the situation with complete transparency.

We deal with a wide range of issues, but amongst the matters which, as family solicitors Manchester, we’re most accustomed to dealing with are the following:

Divorce and Civil Partnership – the end of a relationship can never be painless, but we work with our clients to ensure that things run as smoothly as possible. We make sure that you are always aware of how the process works and in particular the legal ramifications in terms of children and financial issues. In all cases, we’ll work to find a resolution which is quick, simple and avoids confrontation as much as possible.

Financial Settlement – the most contentious aspect of many divorce arrangements involves dealing with the financial issues. We work with our clients to arrange a fair and legally binding division of assets including property, savings, pensions and insurance policies. We work to arrive at an arrangement as swiftly as we can, and if clients contact us at the earliest possible opportunity we’ll ensure that they don’t make poor decisions which can impact for many years to come.

Adoption – adoption is a highly specialised area of the law, and we have the expertise needed to guide our clients through the various stages of the process. Whether a child is being adopted via an agency, following a foster placement, from care or even from overseas, our team will be in hand to make sure that you receive sensitive and legally astute advice. This applies if you’re a client seeking to adopt or a parent whose child may be adopted.

Domestic Violence – for anyone subjected to domestic violence, be it physical or verbal, the main priority when seeking legal help is always going to be protected from the perpetrator. We work to make this happen as quickly as possible, dealing with clients in a sensitive but effective manner.

Social Services and Care – we understand how daunting any contact with social services can be for a family, and so we work to explain the situation in clear, easily understood terms, and to offer advice which is tailored to the specific case. If, as can sometimes be the case, court proceedings take place with very little notice, members of our team will be on hand to arrange legal aid where applicable and offer representation.

As family solicitors Manchester we take our responsibilities very seriously, but this doesn’t mean we lose sight of the wider meaning of this time of the year. We decided to mark Christmas by donating £50.00 to the Stockport Foster Carers Association to assist in their annual Christmas Party and £50.00 worth of items to the Trussell Trust Food Banks, a small recognition of the fact that, for some people, Christmas can be a difficult time of the year. We’d also like to wish all of our clients – past, present and future – a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Although we sincerely hope you don’t need the services of a solicitor over Christmas, we’re still on hand if an emergency does arise. We close at 4 pm on Friday 22nd December and re-open at 9 am on  Tuesday 2nd January. During this period our emergency phone line is still available on 07837124732, or you can contact us via email at [email protected].
