Halle Berry loses custody battle

Oscar winning actress Halle Berry has lost a court battle with her ex-partner over whether or not she could take their daughter Nahla to live in France.

Halle wanted to re-locate to Paris with her French fiance Olivier Martinez. She argued that France would be a better place for Nahla to grow up due to the constant harassment from the paparrazi in LA. However, the court ruled that such a move would have a negative impact on Nahla’s relationship with her father and therefore the Judge decided that the child must remain in LA.

In English law a parent cannot re-locate a child to a different country without the agreement of all of those with parental responaibility for that child. In cases where it has not been possible for an agreement to be reached the court has been asked to make the decision.
