More Money to speed up adoption

It is being reported that the government is going to pledge an additional £30 million to help speed up the adoption process. The funding will be announced in Wednesday’s budget. It will be given to local authorities  to help them speed up the matching process of children and adoptive parents particularly across geographical borders which can be an expensive and lengthy process.

It currently takes an average of 18 months for a child to find an adoptive family in England and there are currently around 3,000 children in care.

Whilst any boost in funding to children’s services is surely a good thing children’s charities have warned that many of the children awaiting adoption have a range of complex issues which will make them difficult to place, regardless of the additional cash.
